A Day Without Your Smartphone

Ever since you have gotten a smartphone, do you think you can go a day without it. My phone has essentially turned into my brain so I'm not sure what a day without my blackberry would be like.

Denver at LA Game 2

Trying out the real time blogging like I've read on other blogs. Just going to write thoughts as they come to my mind...

Just sitting here watching the game. Carmello is getting better and better. NeNe is even getting better. Billups is amazing!!! That play he made off of Kobe's back; remarkable!!! Birdman just got dunked on by Kobe!!! LMAO Birdman is a character...

Can Andrew Bynum do something? Lamar Odom's head is really shiny! You know, as much as I don't like the Lakers, and as much as I used to detest Kobe. I respect his game. The guy is that damn good! I really hope the Lakers lose the lead.

These commercials are lame. LOL but I love the one where they show the Lakers come back and beat the Trailblazers. Pippen looked lost after Kobe crossed him up. Hillllarrioussss.... Ok enough for now. I'll add comments as they come.

Chocolate Butterscotch Fondue

With this being the Chocolate Factory, I felt the need to provide a chocolate dipping sauce that all the couples can enjoy on a night alone together. Hope yall enjoy this.

1 tablespoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup butterscotch chips

Heat cream or half & half, sugar and salt in a fondue pot over high heat. Lower heat, stir in chocolate and butterscotch chips. Reduce heat to low and allow bits to melt, stir constantly. Stir in vanilla. Use apple wedges, strawberries, marshmallows or other foods for dipping.

Virtual Currencies... What's your take?

Here is an article on CNN.com that discusses the use of virtual currencies in social networks, and online gaming and some these currencies can be traded against actual currencies. Seems harmless right? Well it depends to the extent they develop. Right now they seem pretty trivial, but let's say that one of these currencies catches on and can be used to purchase goods in the real world. Why wouldn't they replace the actual currencies that are so laden with problems and bogged down with exchange rates?

For example, Instead of having to worry about taxes and writing a check, I can fix someone's car and they pay me in Hi5 dollars. Then I go buy a PS3 or something like that from a website that honors Hi5 dollars.

Basically, conspiracy therorist would say they could see virtual currencies paving the way for a one-world currency not based off of anything concrete. To which one entity could control, and we all know that's not a good thing. Why is that not a good thing? I'll explain below.

The dollar used to be based off of the gold standard, so there would never be more dollars in circulation than the value of the US gold reserves, therefore it was based on something concrete. I'm not a historian, nor will I pretend to be, so I don't have the exact dates and details, but eventually that changed and the Federal Reserve (FED) was established and lends our government money at interest, so pretty much they control the amount of currency that is in circulation. Stringent guidelines are in place as to not prevent them from flooding the market with useless amounts of dollars which would cause inflation basically rendering the dollar useless. If the trend holds, the next forseeable step would be to decouple the dollar from a concrete currency at all and the idea of a virtual currency would allow the powers that be to have autonomous control over the currency using something like the fear of another economic collapse as reason enough establish the system. I forsee one huge problem with virtual currency, if it ever comes to that, which I'll explain with the following example.

Let's say you have $5,000 in a savings account at a bank. The bank tells you that in 6 months you will no longer be able to use your debit card, write a check, make online purchases or make withdrawals, or deposit money into your account. To make matters worse they say that no other banks will accept you. What would you do? You damn right!!! I would take my money out and have $5,000 in cash. OK, let's reuse the same scenario, but this time with a virtual currency... Then what??? You're just out of luck because the virtual currency isn't based on anything concrete at all. Someone could argue that you could trade it against a concrete currency like the Dollar or Euro, but if there aren't any left then you'll be stuck and broke and there would not be a thing that could be done about it.

I think people are being conditioned to accept the eventual use of a virtual currency. Even though this is a comical example, but if you compare the old version of Monopoly against the new version of Monopoly what's the difference? Yup, the new version doesn't use cash, it gives you a card that represents your cash. A virtual currency where whoever is playing the banker has all the control by crediting and debiting money on your card on their banking machine. You can't make any transactions via player to player without the banker being involved.

This blog was way longer than I intended it to be, so I'll cut it short here. Just posted this as food for thought.

Life & Purpose?

Do any of you ever sit around wondering, what is my purpose in life? For some it's a religious purpose, for others it could be to establish/continue a legacy through their children, yet even in others it could be to fulfill a career goal that they've set, or quite possibly a combination of all the above.

I often sit and wonder this a lot. Is my purpose simply to exist? Is my purpose predestined, or in other words are my steps ordered? Is life a path of nodes where upon reaching a node we have to make a choice and that choice sets us blazing down a path until the next decision? I guess no will ever know until the answer is revealed at death.

I'm just curious to wonder if anyone else thinks about this, or do they just live and enjoy life they have it?

Black Universities and Colleges struggling during recession

You could probably say that some of the HBCUs were struggling before the recession began back in December 2007, but the past year and a half seems to be putting a death nail in some of them. Morris Brown lost it's accreditation years ago and for some reason there are still students enrolled there. Morris Brown and Paine College are both having financial problems right now and I think Allen University in Columbia isn't fairing to well either. I know some of the bigger HBCUs like Howard, Hampton, Morehouse, Spellman, FAMU etc will be able to weather the storm. Do you think some of the other ones will be able to survive the economic turmoil? These smaller institutions have been able to provide education to people who might not have been able to attend other institutions whether financially or institutional requirements.

Impact Rookies in NFL next season

What are the top 3 rookies to make an impact in the NFL next year? I think Macklin for the Eagles will make a pretty big impact for the simple fact that Andy Reid is pretty good at designing offenses and using talent. This next guy maybe a surprise, but Shonn Greene for the Jets will probably have an impact too with Leon Washington and Thomas Jones holding out for better contracts. And after much contemplating Aaron Curry will probably also have a big season for the Seahawks.

Dependency on technology

Why do people freak out so much that when their blackberries go down or in this situation Google has an outage? Makes you wander what people did before all of this stuff.
